Reports
The links below will take you to various reports on The National Archives. Much of the work here goes on behind the scenes and these reports will give you some idea of the range of tasks we are involved in.
Annual report and resource accounts 2008-2009
The sixth annual report and resource accounts on the work of The National Archives has now been published, along with the sixth report of the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives.
Notable achievements this year include:
- We made the 1911 Census available online, in partnership with findmypast.com. The most detailed census since UK records began, it includes details of 36 million people living in England and Wales in April 1911.
- More of our most popular records were made available online through licensed partnerships, including UK incoming passenger lists for 1878 to 1960.
- We launched our 'Cabinet Papers, 1915-1978' web resource. Originally designed for A level and university students, it has become an invaluable tool for people of all ages interested in gaining insights into how government makes the decisions that affect all our lives.
- We developed and launched a proposed new government policy on archives for the 21st century in partnership with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and CyMAL (Museums, Archives and Libraries Wales). We initiated a public consultation to gather views on the policy proposals.
- We launched a programme to effectively capture and archive UK government websites, taking snapshots of central government sites on a regular basis.
- We established a new Public Sector Information Unlocking Service, designed to make it easier for individuals, community groups and businesses to re-use official information.
- We welcomed the team responsible for the Statute Law Database to The National Archives. This move brings all of government's resources in publishing UK legislation together in one organisation and will help improve the way we make legislation accessible, especially online.
